Greek Orthodox Church Community Centre and Function Hall

August 5, 2024 Faisal Wani

Project: Community Centre and Function Hall

Client: Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia

Contract Value $1.8M

The Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia embarked on a transformative project to enrich the community with a

modern, versatile Community Centre and Function Hall. The endeavor involved the demolition of two dwellings, sheds,

and storage buildings to make space for the new construction across three blocks.

The exterior of the centre was brick veneer construction, featuring a bespoke wrought iron door sourced and imported

from Europe. This magnificent door, weighing 800kg, demanded specialized transportation and a team of ten skilled

professionals for installation.

Inside, the hall exudes Victorian charm, complemented by modern amenities. The bathrooms boast floor-to-ceiling

tiles for a sleek finish, while the head chef designed full commercial kitchen rivals those found in 5-star restaurants.

Equipped with multiple deep fryers, a Rational oven, grills, and an elaborate exhaust system, the kitchen is fully

prepared to cater to functions within the hall and events on the grounds.

One of the project's unique challenges was sourcing bricks that matched those used in the church built four decades

prior. Despite the discontinuation of the original bricks, negotiations with suppliers successfully led to the

remanufacture of a bespoke batch totaling 60,000 units.

Furthermore, the carpentry work was entrusted to a master craftsman, marking his final project before retirement. His

skill and dedication ensured the construction's meticulous finishings perfection & aesthetic appeal.

In essence, the Community Centre and Function Hall stand as a testament to the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of

Australia's commitment to fostering community spirit and providing a venue for gatherings, celebrations, and cultural

events for generations to come.

Post construction the Community Centre and Function Hall project was honored with the prestigious "Project of the

Year" award in Australia. This esteemed recognition was a testament to the dedication and excellence exhibited by the

Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of Australia and the entire project team.

The accolade was particularly meaningful as it was presented to Juscot Construction by the esteemed Archbishop

Ezekiel, underscoring the significance of the project within the community and the church. We were truly honored to

receive such distinguished recognition.
